Good news! The number of Americans studying abroad has more than doubled in the past decade, and is reaching a new record this year. According to a just-released study by the Institute of International Education, the number of U.S. college students who studied abroad reached 206,000 this year, up from 83,000 a decade ago and 45,000 two decades ago. åndrès, white American kids go to overseas universities for a sememster or two to play and to experiecne living in another culture. It has nothing to do with learning at top universities. Foreigners come here to go to college because they want to be able to find work here with top companies and because it leads to citizenship. I think in your own column, you mentioned only 1 Latin American University even ranked in the top 200 in the world. Why would anyone want to go to college in Latin America? I don't know of any Americans making plans to move there and work.
Americans know what Spanish speaking Latin Americans are all about, there is no need to go to school over there to find out. There are more than enough of you Hispanicks over here.
Although I am all for Americnas learning a second language like French or Mandarin Chinese, there isn't the same urgency for us to do so as the world uses English as a common language. It's those people who sneak into other countries and force themselves on others that need to be taught specific languages at their shcools, specifically the language of the country they plan to sneak into.

You are absolutely correct about more U.S. students needing to spend time in Latin America. I have a niece who is going to Costa Rica which I thought was a wise choice.
When I lived in Guadalajara a number of years ago, I ran across some young Japanese management candidates whose job at the time was to attend the local university as part of preparation for their future with Japanese businesses operating in Latin America. I thought it was an excellent program which showed why to a certain extent why U.S. businesses were getting their tail kicked at that time by the Japanese.

Not to defend Mr. Thorsen, but rather to defend math. You said "How do they do or you do to make speak more than the 100% of them????"
The answer is quite clear. Some respondents to that question (i.e. pupils) are studying multiple languages. Thus, the totals may be over (and in some cases well over) 100%. This is fairly comon since kids in pretty much any foreign country usually take classes in English in addition to their native language (and some students also take additional languages). Just like if you did a survey on the sports people played. Since some people participate in multiple sports, the %'s would most likely be over 100%.
I'm not trying to start a fight here, but for you to not understand that you must be really really dumb. Also, you are trying to make fun of Mr. Thorsen but your English is clearly lacking: "Please keep going as Johnny Walker do"

No, I am not a host of the www. I am an intelligent person who would like to have an honest debate with people--especially regarding illegal immigration. Regarding your 2nd question, I have no idea how to answer it since it doesn't make sense, but I would like to think that I know more than you since you did not understand how the %'s could add up to more than 100%. I have no idea what you are asking in your third question. It is very difficult to communicate with someone like you who hasn't yet mastered the English language. You ask "Can I?" Can you what? Can you act write nonsensical thoughts filled with grammar and verb tense mistakes? Yes you've done plenty of that already.

Hey "Truth Matters", I want to ask why you have a problem with illegal immigration? They are just people looking for a better life.
I could care less if anyone is legal or illegal.
What I want from any immigrant group is to see them work hard, respect the USA, be a positive force in the society and I want to see them contribute and make the USA a better place. That's what I see in Filipinos, Europeans, Sooutheast Asians, Polynesians......
I see none of that from the Hispanic people.
I just see pure unadulterated hatred of the USA and the "Anglos". I see a total refusal to accept English as our language. I see Hispanics go all-out to force us to accept Spanish as our language. They will not invest their money back into the USA, instead they smuggle tens of billions of dollars out of the USA every year. They boo USA international sports teams, They wave foreign flags all over the USA and won't be caught dead with a USA flag. They can't bear to give their kids American names. My grandparents immigrated to North Dakota from Norway. They didn't insist my parents be given names like Per or Lars. They didn't make damn sure my parents could speakie Norweigan. They didn't force businesses and the governement to adopt Norweigan as the language, even though we were the first Europeans in the Americas by hundreds of years (the Vikings).
