THE DAY CASTRO DIES -- EL DIA EN QUE SE MUERA CASTRO

SAO PAULO -- The day ailing Cuban president-for-life Fidel Castro dies, whenever that happens, several Latin American countries will express their deepest condolences, and at the same time ask for a political opening on the island.Unfortunately, South America's biggest country is not planning to be among them. Read the full column here in English, or here in Spanish, and let us know what YOU think countries should do when Castro dies.

This was an excellent column, Andres. I think there is likely to be a fair amount of pressure from the Mexicans and a couple of others. Hugo Chavez did not make any friends when he interfered in their national elections. His activities in Cuba provide another reason for opening Cuba to democratic institutions. Opening Cuba would remove one of his power bases.

I am not optimistic with your suggestions. I am affraid international community and mainly Europe still believes Cuba is a matter of the United States, and the United States has had made very clear it will not accept any other countries interfere in what they consider their porch. They want europe to help to oust Castro but in no way have a significant participation in Post-Castro cake.

Saludos cordiales,

Andres, have you forgotten what Mr. Paya and Roca told you three months ago? Regarding a supposed "transition", Paya said the US (and presumably other countries) should say clearly that "The Cuban process must be defined exclusively by the Cuban people." Roca said the world should "should send a positive, nonthreatening, reconciliation message" to Cuba. These are words from top representatices of the few hundred or so so-alled dissidents in Cuba telling us to butt out. Are you telling me the average patriotic Cuban is going to appreciate a mention of political change from foreign governments at a time of national mourning?

You said you agree then, so what has changed? Or do you honestly consider foreign governments calling for regime change in a condolence statement non-threatening?

There is no doubt that such a campaign would be orchestrated by the US State Deptartment's Office of Transition as part of their planning. As such, it would be irresponsible for the Cuban Governement not to regard such a seemingly small gesture posturing as a threat. We know millions of our taxpayer dollars are being spent to manipulate foreign minitries on Cuba as part of our Transition Plan. We know the CIA has opened up a new shop on Cuba. We know much of the Plan was classified for national security reasons. Maybe if these threats were not multiplying such statements would not be a big deal, but reality is otherwise.

Are you proposing to buy some Cubans generals? What a nice lesson of honesty are you giving!!!

This article is a clear example of the anti-castrist thought, proposing bribes and corruption.

The democracy promoted by the USA is carried out with billons of dollars of bribes or weapons without caring what people want or think.

Unfortunately in Cuba and the rest of Latin America countries there always are corrupted politicians willing to deal with the generous imperial offering.
That’s our karma. Our worst defect.

I really wish Cuba find its own RESPECTABLE way. I´m satisfied with the biggest, the third and the fourth Latin-American countries position, helping Cuba to find its way.

Respectfully,

Great Article

If most of the rest of Latin America in quasi-democratic
civil society guise have deep problems, you can imagine what may await Cuba

I fear closer to post soviet Russia in
corruption, then again

I pray Cuba follows the Polish/Czech example and
like was said during the Revolution of 1895
to hell with Spain!!!
(and with all that would replace her)
Take everything away from Castro's foreign investors(they front for the Drug Cartels anyway) and distribute a new class of workers share's creating a capitalist Cuban system for an educated workforce overnight
replacing the ration card except for the unemployed ,handicapped, seniors, children, and the truly needy.

Also Brazil and others not to keen
on change in Cuba are worried about the official and unofficial joint ventures they have with Cuba
and its den of thieves

Castro and his cronies have at least a couple of billion squirreled away thru the Spanish,Swiss,French,Venz, and yes a couple of other countries as well.
Stay tuned for Banks
start with UBS that was fined 100 million in May/June of 2004 by the FED for illegal commercial activity(money laundering)7 billion with sanctioned countries of which
5 billion was Cuba's
I am sure its just a question of time before we see some Spanish,Venezuelan,Argentine
and Brazilian names along side of the MININT ministry names and its UBS accounts

When Fidel is finally gone I will have the "Cuba Libre" I have never had, then I'll seat back and watch American media, American academia, half the Democratic Party and Black leaders pay tribute to what Harlem considers "a champion of civil rights". I'll be doing that while rolling on the floor in uncontrollable and spasmodic laughter.

Mr Oppenheimer,what thre U.S has
to meddle with Cuba' s affairs
anyway?
The U.S must leave Castro alone.

Cuba is not an American problem..
it is a Latin American problem.
And in Latin America do exist
pluralism.
What the U.S loves to do is
to intervene in political affairs
that are not their own.
Later on when some give America
their pay back...they you see americans crying like babies.

Americans must learn not to meddle in Latin America's affairs.

One big black spot that still tarnishes the image of the ED drugs like viagra is the illegal sale of these drugs. The illegal sale or smuggling of the drugs like viagra is very rampant and still beyond the clutches of the respective authorities. In countries like South Korea the illegal sale of viagra is fetching double the money that is fetched from its legal sale. http://www.viagracare.com
