A LULA LOSS IS NO LONGER UNTHINKABLE...PODRIA HABER UN CAMBIO EN BRASIL

All bets are off in Latin America's biggest country: In the aftermath of Sunday's first-round presidential election, it's no longer outlandish to think that Brazil's left-of-center President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva could lose the Oct. 29 runoff, and that a center-right opposition victory could change the region's political map. Read the full column here, and let us know what YOU think.

We were just wondering if you are going to write about the military squads making a come-back in your native nation. Or rather, as many suspect you will just ignore the issue all together, because they are not the left wing military squads.

How say you Mr.Oppenheimer?

What does this have to do with Lula??
Regardless who wins Brazil

Again, continued opportunity for the poor and lower middle class
is key even if it means a bit more
in taxes for the wealthy,
GEE so they will not be able to invest in Miami's latest luxury condo, but they can help their country for once by paying their taxes
Same goes for the rest of the continent ,yes Reuben from Rosario except for Chile!!!
Good morning to all !!

Nato Instructor: you are way off the mark on this one. I was writing against the right-wing military squads back in 1977, when many of the current "progresistas" in Argentina - including some now in the government - where silent, or making money, under the dictatorship.
I pride myself on having always criticized human rights abuses committed both from the right and from the left, unlike many who nowadays seem to believe that Cuba, Venezuela and Bolivia should be exempt from criticism for human and civil rights abuses.
Respectfully,
Andres Oppenheimer

I have acquaintinces who know that

the NYC Doormen look alikes seized control of your country.
Good For You!
If more of your countrymen or mine for that matter had spoken up and acted Latin America would be as peaceful and as prosperous as
Miami
even with all its imperfections a far better state of affairs

Roberto, Miami is the poorest city in the USA. It was one of the richest in the USA before Hispanicks came. It is also one of the most dangerous cities in the USA. BUt it wasn't that way before Hispanicks came.

¿Is there anything real in this world?
the top ten most dangerous cities all have a non-white component of between 60 and 90%. They are Camden, New Jersey, Detroit, Michigan, St. Louis, Missouri, Flint, Michigan, Richmond, Virginia, Baltimore, Maryland, Atlanta, Georgia, New Orleans, Louisiana, Gary, Indiana, and Birmingham, Alabama.
On the other hand, the top 10 most safest cities in America all have a white percentage of between 66 and 88%. They are Newton, Massachusetts, Clarkson, New York, Amherst, New York, Mission Viejo, California, Brick Township, New Jersey, Troy, Michigan, Thousand Oaks, California, Round Rock, Texas, Lake Forest, California, and Cary, North Carolina.

Respectfully.

I pretty much agree with your electoral handicapping. But I might take issue with calling Alckmin center-right. Maybe in the Brazillian context, but certainly not from a US or neo-liberal point of view. There is hardly a bit of difference between Lula and Alckmin's platform, that is why you had to rely on guesswork and quotes...the right has moved to the left in Latin America. That much should be clear by now. But yes, the PSDB is right of the PT, but that really is not saying much. The true free-market believers like you have been obliviated...

eduardo... as much as we both have tried Mr Thorsen is a Racist and Anti-Semitic as well.
Possibly even a danger to himself and others

I am just going to say a prayer on his behalf and ignore him.
Even with all the facts only isolation, medication and prayer can help him. He is on his own

eduardo, you Hispanics will bring down the USA just as you Hispanicks have rendered unlivable every other society you people have ever settled.
It's you Hispanics who are the racists. I have never ever in my life seen a people so in love with themselves as Latin Americans of Spanish ancetsry. So in love with themselves that they can see no good in any other people in the world and who then feel it is their moral duty to bring the superior Hispanic culture and language to the world, so the world does not miss out on the joys of being Hispanick. That as you Hispanics pay your life savings to get the hell out of your countries.

I do not know who is right or wrong on this "white" vs "brown" cultural confrontation you seem to enjoy so much. I will check all the facts before giving an opinion.

I do have to say though, that lately, if I find myself alone in an elevator with a young white American school kid, there is no doubt in my mind that I would be be scared sh..less.

P.D. Sorry for the French!
