CENTERPIECE OF U.S. POLICY TOWARD LATIN AMERICA WILL EVAPORATE THIS WEEKEND. WHAT'S NEXT?

Wanted: a new centerpiece for U.S policy in Latin America. The one in place -- if there is one -- will likely evaporate on Saturday. Indeed, the June 30 expiration of President Bush's congressional authorization to negotiate new free trade deals will leave the United States without what has been the focal point of its policies in the Americas in recent years. Read the full column here, and let us know what YOU think.

The Irak invasion has changed all.

Latinamericans have not many confidence in the US. Our Big Brother is not longer a reliable neighbor.

To restore the lost confidence a complete Re-Engineering of our relationship will be needed.

Today negotiations between US and our region countries are carried
on under a WIN-LOSE model.

Agendas coordination and economicals asymmetries are important isses to be considered under a new WIN-WIN model.

Oppenheimer wants to emulate again "the 1984 Kissinger Commission on Central America "..........

That's just wonderful Oppenheimer; Henry Kissinger is a wonderful example for Latin America ......... which dictator would you like to install in Latin America now Mr. Oppenheimer ?

Are you having fond memories of Kissinger organizing the coup in Chile ?

Does the thought of the Plan Condor pleasure you Mr. Oppenheimer ?

All I can say Mr. Oppenheimer is to ask you to change professions because you are an absolute clown in journalism and you have absolutely no morals; every article you write is just further proof to the world that you are a reactionary neo-con and I would even have to warn all citizens that you are a danger to the wellbeing of Latin America.

Oppenheimer quotes the "Florida International University business professor Jerry Haar who says that If you take a look at logistics and supply chains, Europe is not competitive with North America in terms of trade.''................

Another highly researched piece of "reporting" from Oppenheimer.....lets just all agree that "Florida International University" is no Harvard University......

Oppenheimer has absolutely no clue what he's talking about - I honestly cannot believe that whatever entity is paying this clown Oppenheimer to report this kind of bull lets him get away with writing such idiotic facts without a minimum of fact checking or common sense........

åndêrš has gone out of his way to do his stories. I respect his work but don;t care for him personally because he doesn't hide his anti-Americanism and he wants to make Latin America rich by devastating the USA.
I initially thought he was a phony because he came out with a book on Castro, acting as if he were some sort of ex-insider in the Castro administration, when in fact he is not even Cuban, but from Arhentina. But his book was extremely well researched and well written. The stupidest comment I ever heard åndêrš make was when he chasitsed Americans for challenging Hispanicks from insisting their kids speakie Spanish, defending it by saying Europeans speak up to 4 languages. That was stupid because Europeans learn other languages to be able to interact with foreigners when in a foreign land, they do not use foreign languages to converse with fellow countrymen.

ANDRES OPPENHEIMER
THE OPPENHEIMER REPORT
Racists will love new 'Hispanic threat' book
And where is it written that people are biologically limited to speaking only one language?
Anybody who has traveled through Europe knows that the Swiss, Danes, Swedes and others speak two, three and sometimes four languages.

Hey Rob Rufino, I agree with you 100%. There is too much disdain and hatred of the USA in Spanish speaking Latin America (but not Brasil) for us to form any sort of partnership. All because you people see the USA as an extension of the UK, the hated historic rivals of your beloved Spaniards and are very upset that the "Anglos" have whipped you people in every conceivable way.
my opinion: the USA MUST develop partnerships with our trusted friends in Asia. That means bringing in cheap labor from India, the Philippines, Southeast Asia....
It means accepting any and all Asian students who apply to USA universities.

When are the latin Americans going to start taking responsibility for their own actions or inactions? How brave and corageous they appear on their demonstrations in the USA. I wish they would use their unity and courage protesting in their own countries. Why does the USA tax payer has to foot the bill created by the Feudal System left in all of South America by the Spanish and Portuguese? Why do the illegals keep fleeing to the "BAD" USA and ask for rights they would not dare to even complain for in their own countries? It is not American policy what is needed in South America, what those countries need is to change their corrupted governments and militaristic leaders into real democracies and insure upper mobility by educating the masses they have kept ignorant since the Spanish and Portuguese took over for the then very advanced indigenous population who didn't have horses or powder. Until all latin Americnas stop blaming the Big Brother from the north for their problems and unite and ask for positive changes within themselves, nothing will happen!

Hey guayames, I could NOT have said that any better myself. The problem is that Hispanics are a tremendously proud people, and they will never ever admit that the problems in Latin America are because of them. They always try to find a way to blame the USA/"Anglos". And as long as they do that, they problems will never end and Latin America will forever be like it is now. So long as Latin Americans adore punks like Hector "Macho" Camacho and they have no place in their society for any law abiding, nerdy scientists, the problems will never end.
I used to think that way when I was a punk kid. I used to think the bad people were the good people and that the nerds were the bad people. It was only until I started reading the Bible and started a career, that I realized it was the other way around. I luckily realized that before I got married to a punk women, and spread more punk genes into the society.
