ANGRY MIGRANT UNDERCLASS MIGHT ERUPT IN U.S.A.

The rapid escalation of the U.S. anti-immigration hysteria -- fueled by ratings-hungry cable-television hotheads and leading Republican presidential hopefuls -- is a dangerous trend: It may lead to a Hispanic intifada that may rock this nation in the not-so-distant future. Read here more about the danger of a "Hispanic intifada," and let us know what you think.

Dear Andres,
It's obvious that you are suffering from a giant "gusano" in your brainpan which is impeding your normal thought processing. Our illegal problem is not like the legitimate Palestinian or Immigrants in France and England. The first are residents in their homeland. The last two are residents legally admitted into France and England from their colonial empires. Your warning Americans that there may be violence forthcoming if we don't let illegals integrate may have a ring of truth, but rest be assured the violence won't come from the illegals. The violence will come from Americans who are sick and tired over the abuse of our national borders. God forbid any violent actions fron illegals because Americans, both White and Black, will get together and clean out whoever presents a clear and present danger to our families and their safety. My two daughter in laws are Ecuadorian and they both came over legally after a waiting period of two years even though they were legally married to U.S. Citizens. I love them dearly and would not trade them for anything in this world. One became an American citizen this year and both speak English. That my friend, is the American way.

åndèrš, what a bunch of crap. I would go out of my way to give legalization to any "illegal" living in the USA who shows me they really want to be American. All I see from you Hispanicks is an intense hatred of the USA and of the "Anglos". My problem is not with "illegals", but rather wiht a people, Hispanicks, who will not speak English, who try to force their language and culture on the USA, who boo USA international sports teams, who defiantly wave foreign flags all over the USA and who will not give their kids Ameircan names......
A people who claim they made the USA great and who portray white Americans as "non-Hispanick whites" and as bumbling, dithering idiots who Hispanicks had to come here and rescue from poverty.

Hey åndèrš,do you know that Hispanics hunted down and savagely massacred any "illegals" found living in what they saw as "their land", even though such "illegals" were in their own communities thousands of miles away from any Spanish settlement? Did you know that?

Nolan was not the first American to enter Texas, but he was by far the most important up to his time. Most of the handful of others who dared cross the border in the late 18th Century were either driven back or carried away to the mines of interior Mexico. To cross the Spanish iron curtain of that day, without a special license from the King of Spain, was in fact a capital offense.

When the English settled at Jamestown, they were constantly on the lookout for a Spanish attack against their foothold in the New World. They knew how Spain had responded to previous challenges to its claims made under the Papal Donation of 1493, including Pedro Menéndez's massacre of Frenchmen in La Florida in 1565.

Leaving on June 24, 1588, to return to Saint Augustine, Gonzalez sailed along the western shore of the Outer Banks and found debris from English colonists but failed to find evidence of the English Roanoke Colony on Roanoke Island; he reported that the English had disappeared.

It is apparent that you choose to ignore the meaning of "Illegal"! In your Miami Herald column of Sunday, Novermbr 4, 2007 you state, "you may have violated a rule but that should not make you an "illegal" person! I have a little news for you sir! This may be true in Buenos Aires, however if a person enters the United States of America without permission or enters legally and violates his/her status that person is an"illegal alien" under our law! I think you need to understand that being in the United States illegally is not a violation of a rule but a violation of our laws! These violators , whom you term "Angry migrant underclass" are of their own making!

Further, your opinion incites those who are here illegally to rise up and intimidate us by declaring that the majority of Americans are xenophobic and anti immigrant! You opine that we are deceptive when we say that we welcome legal immigrants but have a bias against those who violate our laws! It is apparent that you do not know or understand the physic of the American people who descend from those who came to this country legally by waiting their turn and assimilating into our culture! Shame on you!

Hopfully you are right. Its been awhile since the American people have taken to the streets.

My 82 year old mother just bought a new 357 magnum last month just for such an occurrence.

If the politicians see the peasants finally coming for them they may straighten up. They are already quaking at the thought that the Pitchforks we use nowdays are Electronic ones in the form of Blogs and Emails to notify each other of the pols actions such as the DREAM and now AgJOBs bill.

But a few good street shoot outs and some IED's going off here and there would be a good cleansing.

Ive been hearing that our Iraqi veterans are teaching some of the IED basics....to get ready for the Mexican trucks if they get on the road and for the Trans Texas Corridor highway if it comes.

GONNA BE FUN

Oppenheimer (a foreigner) is inciting terrorist acts by the illegal aliens which can result in the death of policemen and American citizens. He must be prosecuted by the federal government for that and sentenced to several years in prison. Once he served his full time he shall be DEPORTED. The Herald shall fire him immediately for this crime.

Andres Oppenheimer's Tuesday column was incendiary - on more than one level. Predicting that continued resistance to "illegal immigration", or the migration of "rule violators" as he portrays them, will result in a "Hispanic intifada" could be viewed as "stoking the fires" by some. Comparing the possible reaction of these people to violent Muslim rebels is unfortunate - and unnecessary. The literary use of flawed logic and dishonest assertions is a principal espoused by Saul Alinsky in more than one of his books on radicalism. Also, Oppenheimers brand of relativism seeks to adjust moral standards through the use of comparison and illustration (Juan Gomez's story is inspiring, but certainly not representative). He asks us to consider these people as hard working folks who shouldn't be considered illegal, they only broke a rule - jeepers, golly they are more like an honest citizen who broke a rule (astonishingly, he compares illegal entry into the country with a speeding violation). He asks us to legalize them because, if we don't, they will only "get angrier". That kind of thinking shows a lack of respect for both the rule of law and the subject immigrants themselves. And labeling people who's opinions differ from his as "xeonophobic" won't generate consensus. It will just make a fairly large majority of Americans "angrier".

They are not migrants - why is it you have such a hard time with the word ILLEGAL? They are not here legally so they are ILLEGAL - It is bleeding hearts like you who have pandered to these law breakers for the past 30 years that have made them come to think that it is alright to break the laws of the U.S. and just come in illegally. If I go 90 in a 65 mph zone I am a speeder! If they sneak in unlawfully they are ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. Get it right!
I am sick of seeing these ILLEGALS on every street corner and construction site in Orlando and other cities around here. They need to be sent back and come through legal channels. WHAT is so hard to understand?????? There are others standing in line to do it the right way -- why should the rudness of junping the line get them more special consideration?????/

Mr. Oppenheimer, since you appear to be familiar with American immigration laws, I hope you're familiar with American firearms laws to better understand what I have to say.

You have unquestionably demonstrated where you stand on the illegal immigrant issue. But I’ve wondered, what if the situation wasn’t about 12 million illegal immigrants who entered America in violation of federal law? Hypothetically, what if the situation is instead, about 12 million of my fellow Americans buying brand new machine guns, in violation of federal law?

* Would the machine gun manufacturers and gun dealers that knowingly participate in this violation of federal law be prosecuted, or would they be left alone, just like those who knowingly employ illegal immigrants in violation of federal law? Or would these manufacturers and dealers have to make some sort of campaign contribution to a politician first? Would it make any difference if the machine guns are of domestic or foreign manufacture?
* Would the BATFE be undermined in pursuing all of these illegal machine gun owners in the same way that the former INS and the current ICE have been undermined in their pursuit of all of the illegal immigrants?
* Would you change federal law to make it illegal for local and state level legislatures and law enforcement to do anything to people that merely own brand new machine guns, just as they can’t do anything to people that are merely illegal immigrants?
* Would federal law enforcement agents be able to pursue all of these people that didn’t pay the required $200 tax? Or would they would have to view them as tax dodgers that will never be held accountable, just like the illegal immigrants that don’t pay the taxes that they’re supposed to?
* If federal law enforcement agents encountered any of these illegal machine gun owners and simply enforced the law as it is written, would they have to worry about being prosecuted in federal court and sharing a prison cell with Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean?
* Would you promote a massive change of federal law to grant amnesty to these illegal machine gun owners that didn’t play by the rules, thereby insulting the legal machine gun owners that DID play by the rules?
* Would you promote this kind of amnesty because it would be impossible to round up all of these illegal machine gun owners, just as it is supposedly impossible to round up all of the illegal immigrants?
* Would you promote this kind of amnesty and promise law enforcement later, the same way it was done with illegal immigrants?
* Would you promote this kind of amnesty because of the potential of gaining millions of new fans from among these illegal machine gun owners?
* If the will of the people is to enforce the laws that exist instead of changing it, would you agree with them or promote amnesty for the illegal machine gun owners? How would explain your decision?
* If the will of the people is to grant amnesty for the illegal machine gun owners instead of enforcing the laws that exist, would you agree with them or promote prosecuting the law breakers? How would explain your decision?
* Would you show compassion to these illegal machine gun owners if they have kids because it would be cruel to break up these families? Or will illegal immigrants exclusively retain this form of compassion?
* Would President George W. Bush come out in defense of these people by saying, “They’re just buying the machine guns that no one else will buy.” Would you welcome this, or be opposed to it?
* Would you refer to these people that violated the NFA of 1934, the GCA of 1968 and the Hughes Amendment of the FOPA of 1986 as “illegal machine gun owners” or something politically correct such as “undocumented Class 3 owner”? Or would you take the bold leap of viewing them as engaging in civil disobedience and standing up for their rights?

Please explain to this tax paying, law abiding American what you would do in this hypothetical situation. Please be as specific as possible.

Who cares whether or not Hispanics will up rise to protest the new crack-down on illegal immigrants? That is why we have police and the National Guard. To control situations that may turn uncivil. Are we going to change our laws and way of life because we fear we may offend someone or make someone uncomfortable? The fact is that if people are here illegally they should be deported. I am the son of hispanic immigrants and my parents came here lawfully and waited their turn. They became productive members of society and are now retired. During the years they worked, contributed to taxes, civic duties, and socially to this country. We need more citizens like them.
FROM TAXPAYER TO BUSH: SEND THEM ALL BACK!!!

Sincerely,
Juan-Carlos

I am a retired economist, studied with two Nobel laureates, [ Simon Kuzents and Leoniod Hurwitz ] and I will tell you that as sure as water flows downhill labor---ordinary working human beings--those lucky and able to strive for a better life--a life that promises only three basic factors--improved health, improved wealth and improved longevity---will always and everywhere over years or centuries move or migrate from low wage areas to higher wage areas. Nothing in history has ever retarded that basic human migratory dynamic.

But here's my solution to the political [?] issue. I say let all come whomsoever desires to live a better life except---except, before coming--they must learn to speak English fluently. It is only the difficulty of knowing what the heck "they're" saying that makes for disgruntlement by the locals and in time appears as anger at the "illegals". This may sound oversimplified, but communication--talking with one another--solves most of their problems and they smile.

A smile, as any anthropologist will confirm, is a universal attribute of all humans that are pleased, regardless of language, culture, or place.

Mr. Oppenheimer, there is no anti-IMMIGRANT hysteria.

That's a spin that I see every day in the media.

The vast majority of Americans welcome immigrants. But Americans have finally awakened to the massive amount of ILLEGAL immigration and
asserted their desire to have some control over their sovereign nation's right
to enforce it's laws. Similarly we have gotten wise to the past "comprehensive" reforms that have given amnesty without enforcement.

The U.S. is already more generous than every nation on earth,
COMBINED in regards to legal immigration. But that's not enough for some.

So your response is to threaten people with armed rebellion if they do not satisfy the desire of any immigrant in the world to enter our country?
At any time?

That's a strange approach for any sovereign nation to take. What do you base that assertion on?

Dear Andrés;

Let this be my last contribution to your blog:

I have tried to discuss some of the issues in this blog in the past, but nobody with some intelligence seems to be interested in participating on such debate. This time, though, the stupidity of the morons that usually do participte, and others that have done it for the first time, has gotten just unbearable. The best you can do is just cancel this blog. It has been hijacked by idiots. I am not bothering on visiting it anymore.

2 million LEGAL immigrants were welcomed into the USA in 2006. It should be no less in 2007 and beyond. This figure is higher than all other countries in the world - combined. NO ONE, not even the bigots, are arguing against our legal immigration policies.

Now, on what basis can you possibly label the American people "anti immigrant?" Isn't reality staring at you in the face Andres?

Can't you see that what irks legal immigrants - Americans all - is the illegal part above everything else?

Andres:
I realize that the anti-inmigrant histeria created by the media is out of control and the only purpose it serves is to create more hate, division, etc. But to say that giving amnesty to almost 100 million people just and because they have been here 10, 15, 20 years or because they are good people is ilogical. How many amnesties have this country granted to millions of illegal inmigrants thru the years? PLENTY. If they think that if we eat an apple or a tomato we have to thank a mexican is erroneous. We must remember when we had the temporary workers, most of them from the English speaking region of the Caribean, they came for months did their job and went back. We never lacked an apple, a cucumber, a tomato, etc. We should have an organized, controlled form of inmigration and not grant rights to people who defies the laws of the land.If they had kids here thinking that it would provide them a safe heaven to legalization is not our problem. They must face their own wrongdoing and do things right like millions have done.
