U.S. IS FAR BEHIND WHEN IT COMES TO WOMEN IN POLITICS

A recent Newsweek poll says -- without mentioning Sen. Hillary Clinton's name -- that 86 percent of Americans would be prepared to elect a woman to the White House. Well, I'm not so sure. Read here why I'm skeptical, and let us know what you think.

åndêrš, I'm OK with a woman Presidente, but not Hillary Clinton. That woman scares me. Condoleeza Rice would make a fine President. Why can;t you let nature run its course instead of trying to forcefully alter nature by making laws that require women be put in political positions? Same with you Hispanicks taking full advantage of Affirmative Action, stealing jobs from the Anglos, instead of earning your jobs.

Yup, Andre, just another example of those hard-working patriotic illegal immigrants coming here to do jobs Americans won't do

Hey "Truth Matters", what does that have to do with åndêrš' story about female politicians?
I don't think åndêrš has ever claimed that Hispanick illegals come here to do work no Americans want to do. American people hire illegals because they work for less money than US workers. The US government could crack down on illegal home construction workers but won' because they want to ensure houses are cheaper, so that people will but them, which benefits everyone in the long run. I don'thave a problem with that. The problem I have is that we should be bringing in Filipinos, Southeast Asians and Mahatma Gandhi Indians to do that work.

Paul,

While I'm not 100% certain that Andres has used that line of reasoning, it is a very common thought of liberals who preach for open borders and mass illegal immigration. They also claim, "But these people are doing the jobs Americans won't do", while conveniently leaving out the fact that many illegal immigrants commit crimes, especially violent ones. They try to give the impression that every single illegal immigrant is a hard-working person that only contributes positively to society, and this clearly isn't the case.

You are correct in that it is completely off-topic.

Also, yes I agree that part of the problems lies with the overall ineptitude of the US government enforcing the hiring practices of companies. But do you really want illegal immigrants in here working for lower prices??? Or are you hoping for more legal immigration of low skilled immigrants. Obviously, the cheaper it costs to produce something the cheaper it will be to buy, but I do have a problem with massive numbers of ILLEGAL immigrants coming here to lower wages and take jobs from Americans. If the people are here legally, then I have no problem even if wages are lower. But I'm not ok with ILLEGAL immigrants doing that.

I thought this post was about women's involvement in politics, not about haters.

The cited statistics alone do not adequately address this issue in determining the impact of women's involvement in politics within a global comparative context. I am also doubtful that 86 percent of Americans would be prepared to elect a woman to the White House. I think most Americans would answer in that manner, but would not in fact vote for a woman. NONETHELESS, another element that should be included in this assessment is the role of class, especially in developing nations. US women in general, regardless of class (I would guess) participate with our political process at a higher rate than women in developing nations. Also choosing note to vote (American apathy) is in fact a choice, which many women in developing nations do not have.

c_chevere, we don't need insults like that. If you want to debate what åndêrš says, fine, but no personal insults. I swear he is going to shut down the site if the insults continue. I think åndêrš is smart, I love his insights into Latin America, I just don't care for his hatred of the USA and how easily he uses the word "racist".
