Several Latin American countries are about to make their most ambitious investment in education ever -- giving out millions of $150 laptop computers to schoolchildren. But as the magic moment nears, critics are voicing concerns that the program will be a flop. Read the full column here to learn more, and let us know what YOU think about this project.

åndèrs, you obviously read "The World is Flat". That plan worked well for the Indians. What makes you think it will work well for Latin America? There has to be the will to want to learn, the will to want to work. Talk is cheap. Latin America has a legacy of theft, of stealing other peoples treasures. There has never been the urgency to create their own wealth and to create their own jobs. I will close with a select few passages from the aformentioned book "The World is Flat":

Latin American would be the fun part of town, the club district, where the workday doesn't begin until ten PM and everyone sleeps until midmorning. It's definitely the place to hang out, but in between the clubs, you don't see a lot of new businesses opening up, except on the street where the Chileans live.

Mexico is also right next door to the world's biggest economy, which speaks English. But Mexico has not launched any crash program in English education or invested in scholarships to send large numbers of Mexican students to the United States to study......
You would have to look a long time for a graduate science or math program at an American university that is dominated by Mexican students the way most are dominated by Chinese and Indian students.
